A genius is often described as someone with exceptional intellectual or creative power, or some other natural ability. Today, we throw around the word quite loosely, but when describing soul music pioneer Ray Charles, the description is more than apt.

Charles was blinded during childhood due to glaucoma. But it didn’t stop him from revolutionizing pop music by combining different elements of various genres to create a sound that was distinctly and undeniably his.
