Glossary of key terms
Absolutist View (Nishchay Nay) :,The viewpoint that sees the soul as pure and unaffected by external substances. Experienced through self-realisation, beyond delusion, realised fully in omniscience and liberation.
Conventional View (Vyavahaar Nay) : The viewpoint that views the soul in its current state, bound by karma, driven by delusion, using tools and processes to realise the pure soul.
Delusion : A false belief, often about one's true nature, leading to the mistaken identification of the soul with the body.
Dharma : The righteous path to liberation through right knowledge, faith, and conduct, guiding spiritual progress and alignment with truth. Dharma also refers to oneโ€™s true nature, that which keeps us on the true path, and can also mean religion.
True Guru : A self-realised spiritual guide who helps seekers realise their true nature and leads them toward liberation by overcoming delusion.
Hubris (Svachchhand) : The arrogance of believing we know best, ignoring the need for guidance from a higher spiritual source.
Inclinations : Mental tendencies or leanings that can either support or hinder spiritual growth.
Innate Cause (Upaadaan Kaaran) : The material cause of an objectโ€™s transformation, which is the substance of the object itself. For example, clay is the cause of a clay pot, while external factors assist the change.
Instrumental Cause (Nimit Kaaran) : External factors that assist in the transformation of an object. In the case of a clay pot, the potter and wheel are instrumental causes.
Jina : A soul that has conquered all desires and attachments, reaching enlightenment and omniscience.
Karma : Particles of matter that "bind" to the soul, driving the law of cause and effect. Thoughts, words, and actions (with delusion) cause this karma to attach to the soul.
Moksha: Liberation, achieved by shedding karma, through overcoming delusion.
Passions (Kashay) : The four emotionsโ€”anger, pride, deceit, and greedโ€”that arise from delusion and cause the soul to bind karma..
Righteous Observance (Sadvyavahaar) : The cultivation of virtues and faith in the true God, Guru, and dharma; the observance of spiritual practices as guided by a living true Guru; the path to moksha, through the practice of detachment and discrimination.
Samkit: Self-realisation, the state where one overcomes delusion and experiences their true nature as the soul.
Self-Righteous (Mataarthee): Someone who stubbornly believes their approach to dharma is right, according to their own opinion, clouded by pride, sectarianism & prejudice - their motivation is not purely spiritual.
