There are 40 million street/stray dogs in India. Indians for the most part are kind to dogs, and feed the strays in their communities. Street dogs are protected by the Supreme Court, and cannot be displaced or killed. However, most don't make it past the first few months of life from disease, dog attacks, automobile hits. National and international orgs have tried to help. This Angeleno Californian is rescuing a few in northeastern India.
