“L'amour de ma vie” means “The love of my life” in French. Billie dives into the complexities of love and heartbreak, reflecting on a past relationship filled with emotional chaos. Throughout the song, Billie’s voice is heard in a careless tone signifying that she’s happy the relationship is over.

A extended version of the track was released on May 22, 2024, a few days after the release of the original song and album, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT”. This extended version begins on what was part II of the original song, an electronic part of the track, nicknamed by Billie as “Over Now”. Billie speaks about the making of this part of “L'AMOUR DE MA VIE” during the Zane Lowe interview with Apple Music on May 21, 2024:

“Finneas was like ‘We’re not putting that on the album…’ Just put it at the end of something, that is completely different, and just have it be a little secret at the end and not put it out as its own thing. What’s funny is, It feels like it’s part of ‘L'AMOUR,’ but it’s completely not. It’s about a completely different thing… We made the original one in October, and then we rewrote it over a year later.”

The extended version did end up releasing as a track on its own, shortly after the interview was published.

The extended track explores themes of disappointment and closure, delving into a failed relationship and expressing relief with lyrics like “You were so mediocre, and we’re so glad it’s over now.” Allegedly about Jesse Rutherford, the extended version adds depth to the narrative, showcasing Billie’s talent for turning personal experiences into powerful music.
