I completed this hike on October 14, 2023 via Lincoln Woods Trailhead. Everything you hear about Owl's Head is true. Its long, there are a lot of water crossings, and the Bushwhacks do save on distance and time but can be tough to follow in some spots. What surprised me the most about this hike was how long it took to get up Owl's Head Slide. You walk 7 miles out to the slide, and you still have an entire mountain to ascend. The Black Pond Bushwhack was easy to follow except for a few spots where we hade to do some route finding. Once you have ascended Owl's Head, do not expect any magnificent views, although you can get a view of Franconia Ridge just a little way up the slide. Owl's Head Peak is located a half mile walk from the top of the slide and it is in the middle of the trees (no views). We were able to take the Brutus Bushwhack to descend Owl's head. From here it is a long walk out and when you finally get back to Lincoln Woods it can be unforgiving after putting in so many miles. In all, I enjoyed this hike and felt like I could have done more. This was a good test for me as I gear up for a Zealand/Bonds Traverse in the next 2 weeks. In all, I completed 17 miles and 3,140 feet of #elevation gain in 6:52. Good luck on this one!
