Rediscovered almost 600 years after it had been abandoned, Ephesus is one of the great UNSECO treasures of the world. Not just a ruin here or there, but the remnants of an entire city.
Ephesus was the site of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Great Wonders. It became a Roman provincial capital, hosted one of the great libraries of the world and became major centre for early Christianity.
So why was it abandoned?
