During World War 2, this train order station was established to help with the extreme amount of traffic on the line. Just down the line was General Patton's California Arizona Maneuver Area, (aka the Desert Training Center), which in 1942-43 prepared soldiers for combat primarily in North Africa. Traffic surged to the point Southern Pacific told the army that the line had reached capacity. Through the mind's eye, one can see how busy this place was.
