Students at the London School of Economics (LSE) speak to MEE about their university becoming the first British institution to evict its students from an encampment for Gaza and issuing a court order for students to disperse.
Students say they were met with force by their university’s security when being asked to vacate the building, following over 30 days of encampment to demand the university reassess its investments particularly when it came to arms companies
“LSE students were the 1st to produce a report on exact ways that the university is complicit in the genocide of Palestinians and an exact strategy for how the university can dismantle those operations. LSE instead of deciding to set president by divesting and meeting our other demands, they decided to set their legacy in history as a first university in the UK to evict prop and student protesters.
A hearing on Friday at the Central London County Court ruled in favour of the LSE and gave them an interim possession order, requiring the encampment to leave the university building within 24 hours of being served.
