These DIY laundry cabinets are the perfect start into cabinetmaking. They are inexpensive to make yet are easy for the beginner woodworker or the experienced woodworker looking for a quick way to make some overhead cabinets that look great.

I designed these to go wall-to-wall above the washer and dryer. Mine is custom sized for my space and actually consists of two identical cabinets to span nearly 80" of my room.

For the carcass of the cabinets, I use 3/4" melamine board. There is no fancy joinery to build the boxes, just butt joints with glue and screws. Using melamine gives the inside a "factory finished" look.

The face frame is constructed of clear pine or poplar with pocket screws and glue joinery.

The doors are flat panel framed with screwed and glued butt joints. The panels I used are cut from beaded paneling board. The stiles and rails are clear pine or poplar to allow for easy painting.
