Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" stands as a timeless masterpiece of musical storytelling, first premiered in 1936. Originally conceived as a children's introduction to the instruments of the orchestra, Prokofiev's innovative composition quickly captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Interestingly, Prokofiev himself premiered a solo piano version of "Peter and the Wolf" shortly after its orchestral debut.

The composition of "Peter and the Wolf" emerged during Prokofiev's return to the Soviet Union in the 1930s, a period marked by increased artistic collaboration with children's theater director Natalya Sats. Prokofiev crafted the piece with a keen understanding of children's musical education, employing simple melodies and clear characterizations to engage young listeners.

Narrated by Charles McAdams, who was the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University at the time of this performance. Performed by Anthony Olson, Professor of Music (keyboard instruments) at Northwest Missouri State University (https://www.nwmissouri.edu/) and co-owner of the Bellus Music Studio (https://www.bellusmusicstudio.com/).

Recorded live in concert at Northwest Missouri State University, spring 2007.
