This video show in detail how I setup for turning this shaft from a solid 2000 Lb. bar of 4140 steel. To end up with the minimum of runout and stress.
******PLEASE READ BELOW BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION ABOUT THE STOCK SIZE*****
There have been many, many comments/questions on why this part is being roughed from such a large 16" diameter bar. It is because there is a flange of that diameter on the parts end. This customer wanted the part machined out of one piece of material. The original part these shafts were replacing were a welded two piece construction. They had a failure with that so to avoid that possibility in the future the opted for the one piece construction. Also there wasn't time to get open die forgings done to answer that question.
