Did you know? Dalmatian pelicans are one of the rarest and largest pelican species in the world. With a wingspan that can reach up to 11.5 feet and an average weight of around 30 pounds, these birds may appear a bit awkward on land, but they excel at swimming (thanks to their webbed feet) and are magnificent fliers, often soaring at altitudes of over 10,000 feet!

A photograph by Birger Strahl inspired this painting. I was captivated by the drama in the scene and had been eager to paint it for over a year. Finally, I completed it, and I'm thrilled with the result. While I usually work on smaller A4 or A3 sheets for quicker completions, this piece deserved a larger canvas, so I opted for A - 56 x 76 cm. It took approximately 60 hours to finish, spread over several Sundays while working on simpler pieces in parallel on Saturdays. In the end, I feel the time invested was truly worthwhile.
