But when the Byrds performed Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man" on Ed Sullivan, with Roger McGuinn sporting his Rickenbacker 360/12, that the 12-string became a must have guitar for any band that wanted to capture the sound of the British Invasion or the California sound of the mid-60s.
