A lot of women have questions about how fast their baby's heart rate should be when they go to the doctor's office. And the answer is going to be different depending on how far along you are. For example, when a fetal heart is just starting to develop, it's going to beat more slowly. So around 5 weeks gestation, it's normal for it to be around 110 beats per minute. But around 9 weeks gestation, it's at 170 beats per minute, and then it starts to settle down. And by 13 weeks gestation, it's usually around 150 beats per minute. Another question a lot of people have is "is an abnormally high fast rate early in pregnancy meaning that I'm going to have a boy or a girl?" There's some myths out there about this, but the rate of the baby's heart doesn't have anything to do with gender. Again, it has something to do with gestational age and the development of the fetal heart. If you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at   / intermountainmoms  , and recommend us to your friends and family too.
