The Sauk & Sac of Sauk Prairie
Sometimes it's "Sauk," sometimes it's "Sac." Both are still in use as names for the Indigenous People that once had a large village between river and prairie in what is now Sauk County. Who are the Sauk? Where are they today? When did they live on the land that became named the Sauk Prairie and Sauk County? Who was the great Sauk war chief Black Hawk? This video helps answer those questions and provides context for how the Sauk name became used for two villages, one county, and a prairie.
