The Shanghai Museum is set to unveil the exhibition of "On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt" on July 19.

It marks the largest and highest-level display of ancient Egyptian artifacts ever globally and the first-ever collaboration between a Chinese official museum and the Egyptian government. This exhibition features a collection of 788 artifacts spanning various eras of ancient Egypt, including statues of pharaohs, painted human-shaped coffins, and gold jewelry.

Among the highlights is the towering stone sculpture of Merneptah from the Luxor Museum, standing at 2.4 meters tall and weighing 2 tons, displayed under a protective glass cover at the People's Square. It is the first time that the museum has placed a cultural relics outdoors for exhibition.

Additionally, recent archaeological finds from the Saqqara site, such as cat mummies and statues from a temple dedicated to the cat goddess, dating back to 600 BC, are featured.

The Shanghai Museum, after a year and a half of preparation and selection of artifacts for their historical, academic, and artistic value, aims to foster deeper cultural exchanges with Egypt, including joint archaeological teams for archaeological excavations in Egypt.
