After Alex Pereira knocked out Jiri Prochazka on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in the main event of UFC 303 to retain his light heavyweight title, there were two spirited debates at the post-fight news conference.

The first topic was about whether Jon Jones should be regarded as the No. 1 pound-for-pound active fighter in the world. Most experts agree Jones is the best fighter of all-time, but because he hasn't fought in more than a year -- and just once in nearly four years -- some don't have him in the current P4P rankings.

I tried to make my argument at the press conference but it was UFC CEO Dana White's show and he wasn't allowing me to make my point at the press conference. He presented his argument and then made a lot of jokes, making it difficult to counter him.

The second point I argue is that White should allow Pereira to move up to heavyweight to try to capture a third weight class belt. It would be the first time in UFC history, if he could pull it off, that a fighter would have won championships in three weight classes.

The UFC is committed to Jones defending the heavyweight championship against former champ Stipe Miocic, likely in New York in November. That assumes Jones is recovered from his shoulder surgery and able to fight.

So my suggestion is to put Jones-Miocic in the main event with Pereira defending the light heavyweight championship against No. 2 ranked Magomed Ankalaev. If Pereira wins, he'd have wins over the fighters ranked first, second, third and fourth as of June 30, 2024, and surely would then have done enough to merit a move up to heavyweight and a shot at history.
