Most Dangerous Ways To School: Cameroon, Mayotte & Mexico

Most Dangerous Ways To School - Philippines, Peru & Romania:    • Most Dangerous Ways To School | Phili...

13-year-old Mabally is a Bagyeli Pygmy. The equatorial forest he and his family live in is the only world he knows. He has to trek through the jungle to get to his fifth-grade class, spending more than three hours marching across the slippery clay hills of South Cameroon.

In her mother's arms, Nasta sailed to Mayotte in the Indian Ocean in a migrant boat when she was just 4 months old. She knows how to find her way through this corrugated-iron maze, hiking an hour and a half through dust clouds blowing from the dirt tracks.

Born blind, Alfredo has never seen the Mexican megalopolis where he lives. He can only hear Mexico City’s commotion and rumble, smell its scents, and feel its heat. Every day, he crosses the third largest city in the world from north to south to reach his school for visually impaired children.
