Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Hamilton Beach 40865 Glass Electric Kettle, 1.7-Liter. LINK to Hamilton Beach Kettle: http://amzn.to/2cld9jk The Kettle measures 9.8 inches tall by 8.6 inches wide and 6.2 inches deep. It doesn’t take up much space on your counter. The sides are glass. The rest is plastic with stainless steel accents.
This is the power base that the kettle sits on. There is cord wrap under the base for storage. To use the kettle, fill with water up to the max line, don’t fill above it. Make sure the lid is closed tightly. Place the kettle on the power base and plug in the unit. Turn the button to on. While the water is heating, the power light inside the kettle glows. The unit looks pretty with the blue glow. The unit automatically turns off when the water is boiled. Hear that click. It took 8 minutes to boil the kettle full of water - 7 cups. That’s faster than boiling water on the stovetop which took 11 ½ minutes. Press the button on the lid to open. It pours just fine without dripping. The handle is comfortable and stays cool. There’s no cord attached to the kettle so it’s easier to use. The steel accents and glass of course gets very hot. The base stays cool so you can put it directly on your counter. I didn’t smell any plastic smell with this unit.

The kettle will automatically shut off if you turn it on without putting any water in it or if it boils dry so it’s a good safety feature. This Kettle is only for water not for heating up other liquids.
It’s best to empty water from the kettle after each use to avoid buildup. There is an anti scale mesh filter that should be cleaned out once in awhile. You can use a brush to scrub it if necessary. Don’t use anything abrasive to clean this unit. The outside can be wiped with a damp cloth. If there is buildup in the kettle, pour in a tbsp of vinegar and half fill with water. Turn it on, when it boils turn off and let the water cool. Pour it out and rinse the kettle a few times with tap water. The opening is wide enough for cleaning.

If you drink a lot of tea or need water for instant coffee, soups or hot chocolate, this is a good option.
