Did you know there’s been a blue whale model at the American Museum of Natural History for over 100 years? The huge icon hanging in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life has been a visitor favorite for decades. But over time, the way we see whales has changed dramatically as a once- hunted animal became a symbol of ocean conservation. Oceanographer and explorer Sylvia Earle tells the story of filming whales underwater, and Museum staff reveal how whale models have been refined through the years as we learned more about these mysterious ocean giants.
