Our grandparents loved using ash on tomato plants, but what is true and what results should you expect? The benefits will be many, we can use the ash to use in the soil to fertilize the plants and also blow it on the leaves to help the plant defend itself from insect attacks.
Ash contains 3 important nutrients for tomatoes:
1 - POTASSIUM ... improves the quality of fruits making them more flavorful and sweet as well as having better color and vitamin content. Potassium also improves stem and leaf strength;
2 - PHOSPHORUS ... improves the flowering and fruit setting of plants, we will have more productive plants;
3 - CALCIUM ... avoids the formation of apical rot as it increases the consistency of the fruit's tissues, and especially in San Marzano tomatoes it is a panacea.
