The crowds along The Mall were more than ten deep - and everyone wanted to take their own video. This was my attempt. St James' Park, behind us, was also packed with people enjoying the ceremony on a large screen.

Here, the massed bands of the foot guards head the parade along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace after the standard of the 1st Battalion, Irish Guards was ceremonially trooped on Horse Guards Parade. The trooping ceremony is an annual event and marks the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The standard trooped rotates between the five regiments of foot guards each year, viz. the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards, the Scots Guards, the Irish Guards and the Welsh Guards.

It was special this year as The Queen became the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. This marked 70 years of (many would say, faultless) service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

This year the salute was taken by Prince Charles who heads the parade of footguards behind the massed bands.
