The JBL is much louder, Sony at 100% is like JBL on 70% volume. The JBL bass is also more powerful. You can feel the vibrations through your body. So, the battery comparison isn't truly fair as the JBL has greater output. On max volume and bass, I got just over 6 hours on the JBL and about 10 hours (no lights) on the Sony.

The JBL APP is garbage, Sony is a little better.

Waterproof is realistically the same, I don't know anyone that would throw their $500 speakers in the pool and leave it there for over 30 minutes. Both are protected from the rain and accidental spills. Note, manuals state water only, other liquids could cause damage.

Sony can play from a USB drive, JBL is stuck with Bluetooth only (both have AUX lines to play from another device). Being able to play from a USB drive is the reason why I prefer Sony over JBL, I don't have to waste my phone's battery to listen to music.
