First performed in public on 28 November 1909 in New York, Serge Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 is one of the most difficult and technical works in the piano repertoire.
Characterised by long musical phrases and a virtuoso cadenza at the end of the first movement, the work requires "both physical and mental" preparation, according to Daniil Trifonov.
The Russian pianist performed it on 6 March 2018 with the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, conducted by Myung-Whun Chung.
