Surgery can be scary and painful… but it can also be life changing. The vulnerability of surgery can be a door to healing the mind, but you must be prepared for it. Anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, addictions, and more can be addressed during surgery under anesthesia. Just ask someone who has quit smoking (cold turkey) after surgery! It’s why I call my patients the night before surgery: to uncover the inner healing potential.

I call my patients the night before their surgery so we can talk about the basics of anesthesia, like the breathing tubes, nerve blocks, epidurals, spinals, etc. That way we can focus on deeper healing under anesthesia in the operating room.

If patients are preoccupied with the anesthesia basics, like breathing tubes and nerve blocks, we don’t have enough time to focus on healing the deeper suffering. Anesthesia opens you up like a book, and it’s a powerful window into your body. You can use that perspective to grow and heal. This isn’t a bandaid solution, this is finding the root cause of underlying pain. That’s why it’s so powerful!

There are three foundations to starting a healing journey for most patients. All three are present in the operating room before surgery. I take advantage of all three when I start talking with my patients the night before surgery. That way, we can let the mind uncover the inner healing potential. Patients can then recover with less pain, fewer side effects, and improved mental and physical health.

It’s healing the mind AND the body!
