In the clash of emerging lightweight talents, Martin (13-0, 10 KOs) made a significant breakthrough in the seventh round, landing a devastating left hook that sent Perez (13-1, 10 KOs) to the canvas late in the round. Although Perez managed to rise, Martin's subsequent onslaught compelled referee Jerry Cantu to halt the contest just 2:59 into the round.
