Dr Michael Stadler, CTO and Co-founder of XENDEE in San Diego, discusses the advantages of microgrids. Microgrids are a localized system of energy generation, storage, control and distribution that, if necessary, can be disconnected from the utility grid and sustain power for a period of time. College campuses are prime candidates for microgrids, but there are other numerous microgrid applications. Microgrids work to efficiently manage the heating, cooling and electrical needs of a localized area and work to minimize costs including managing the higher and lower rates from the utility grid (load shifting). Solar panels and EVs can be a key part of a microgrid. A question-and-answer session concludes this interesting presentation.
