If you walk the streets of Tanzania’s biggest city – Dar es Salaam – at night, you will come across street barbecues.

These atmospheric grill stations come to life when the sun descends, offering a flavour festival for hungry locals and tourists alike.

On my first evening in Dar es Salaam, I came across this Tanzanian tradition and vowed to eat at one on my second night.

I found a location on Jamhuri Street which, like many Tanzanian street barbecues, serve Indian food, owing to Indians’ long history with the country, dating back to the arrival of the Gujarati traders in Zanzibar.

But I was not here for a history lesson, my presence was dedicated to chowing down on some of the finest street food anywhere in the world, and what I discovered was the best Indian food in Tanzania.

Watch along as I stumble across the world’s best Indian food in Tanzania.

THE RESTAURANT: I didn’t get the name of the restaurant and there was no signage out front. However, you can find its location on Jamhuri Street, Dar es Salaam by typing in the coordinates (-6.8175056, 39.2831357)

📍 Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
