Oletteko nähneet kaupungilla ollessanne joskus tilannetta, jossa vikaantunut raitiovaunu on kytketty toiseen raitiovaunuun, ja juuri vikaantuneen raitiovaunun takana olevaan raitiovaunuun?

Näitä tilanteita ei onneksi ole usein, mutta kovassa käytössä kun raitiovaunut jatkuvasti ovat, saattaa joskus johonkin raitiovaunuun tullakin tekninen vika.

Tällöin edessä oleva, vikaantunut raitiovaunu, tehdään virrattomaksi, ja sen takana oleva ehjä raitiovaunu työntää sitä. Ennen työntämistä raitiovaunut ovat tietysti kytketty toisiinsa huolellisesti kiinni.

Edessä olevan vikaantuneen raitiovaunun kuljettaja toimii tähystäjänä takana olevalle raitiovaunun kuljettajalle, ja antaa hänelle neuvoja, milloin tulee esimerkiksi vaihdealue tai jaksoerotin vastaan.

Tähystäjä on siis ikäänkuin takana olevan raitiovaununkuljettajan 'silmät'.

Kuljettajat ovat yhteydessä toisiinsa radio-tai matkapuhelimella tai sitten LOK-radiolla (LOK=Liikenteenohjauskeskus).
