The Lancia Delta began its production life as an ordinary but very well-equipped compact car. Built on the FIAT Ritmo platform, albeit with a longer wheelbase and a different rear suspension, the Delta's design was crafted by Giugiaro. It emerged as a modern and attractive vehicle, albeit quite expensive – sales were limited. However, everything changed with the Group B rallying ban and the selection of the Delta as the foundation for Group A rally cars. The Delta's production journey ultimately became quite lengthy, and the car itself not only earned the title of Car of the Year but also, thanks to a series of rally championship wins, became a standout chapter in automotive history.
