This track is off 'The Colour of Spring', Talk Talk's third album and was released in 1986. It became the band's highest selling non-compilation studio album, reaching the Top 20 in numerous countries, including their homeland, the UK, where it reached No. 8 and stayed in the charts for 21 weeks. It did not quite match the sales of its predecessor in the United States, but was nonetheless their last album to enter the Billboard Top 200, reaching the Top 75.

With its international hit "Life's What You Make It", Talk Talk expanded their fan base, and it earned the band the third of their three American hits, along with 1984's "It's My Life" and "Such a Shame".

Musically, The Colour of Spring was a major step away from the synthesised pop of early Talk Talk, with the focus on such songs as "Life's What You Make It", "Living in Another World" and "Give It Up". It had a sound described by the band as much more "organic" than their earlier records, with the improvisation that was to dominate on their later works already apparent in the recording process.

The core band comprised Mark Hollis (piano and vocals), Paul Webb (bass) and Lee Harris (drums). Tim Friese-Greene was an unofficial fourth member, although he did not tour. He produced, co-wrote with Hollis and played mellotron.

After their final album, Laughing Stock, Talk Talk disbanded in 1992, as Hollis wished to focus on his children. An innovative musician with a truly distinctive voice.

I normally don't do slideshow videos for songs which already have videos, and the official video is a beauty. However I thought that it would be good to focus on musicians in the band, including guest guitarist David Rhodes who played that ethereal guitar riff throughout the song. I also thought it would be good to include the incredible artwork on the album covers. The images span the very different periods of the group. Anyway this is what I came up with.

Update: I read the news today (26 Feb 2019) that Mark Hollis had died. Condolences to family friends and fans.

As ever, comments are invited.
