The Vecindades in Mexico City were a form of collective and popular housing that emerged massively at the beginning of the 20th century in response to the housing crisis at that time.

However, although they had a boom in the industrialization of the capital, they come from much further back, specifically from the colonial period and ironically as housing for the wealthy class of that time.

What motivated the change towards this type of housing? And how did the Vecindades help to shape the Mexico City of today?
