The 1998 Winston Cup season kind of came out of left field for most people. In an era of considerable parity, two men stepped up and had the best statistical years of their careers and won a combined 21 races that year, leaving no room for anyone else to shine. 1998 wasn't just an amazing year for Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon, but also the 50th anniversary of the sport, and the year that solidified the Jeff Gordon-Mark Martin rivalry. Going forward, you could always judge how good one driver's year was, based one whether or not he did better than the other. To this day, the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup Season is still my favorite season in NASCAR history, and for good reason.
