We are back at the Rubicon for the second year in a row for 2024. This time, I take my 3rd Gen 4runner SAS. This was a blast of a trip with the Trail Militia crew. We had jeeps, broncos, a Lexus and an old Ford F100. The first day got really long and wasn't ideal. We played around soup bowl too long. I show clips of the Lexus and the Ford F100 making it up soup bowl. The day turned in to night quickly. I hate wheeling in the dark especially when tired. This is where mistakes and frustration become a bad mix. Luckily, we took very minimal damage. Bummed a bit that I didn't get to do Little Sluice and Old Sluice like planned due to timing. We get to Rubicon Springs early so we had time to party and do some welding using Karnage Welder on Mark’s Lexus. He lost a bolt for his skid plate so he skid plate was welded to the frame and it held up great throughout the trail - shoutout to Johnny Dang as he is a way better welder than I am for doing the job on the Lexus. Plus I was a bit buzzed taking a few shots with George lol. We go through Cadillac Hill and the gatekeeper on the Tahoe side rather easy this time. Last time it was wet and muddy which is not ideal so it was a cake walk this time around. Overall, no issues on this trip. The rattling sound that I mentioned in the end was the bracket on the swingout that became loose. We ended up welding it on so it no longer became an issue. I was really pleased with the way the rig performed. SAS is truly the way to go when it's pure rock crawling. I tried the soup bowl 3 times but the turn radius and the tire combination did not help. I probably could have made it if I wanted to try some more but I already made it up last year in a IFS Tacoma so I wasn't too interested with pushing it this time. Needless to say, I will be making some upgrades to this rig in the future so stay tuned! Appreciate the invite from the Trail Militia crew and for Ayon doing the superb camera work. Hope you enjoy the video!
