John Mason's beautiful air, rendered here on octave mandolin and guitar. He was the co-founder, musical director, and conductor of the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra from its creation in 1980 until his death in 2011.

Portencross is a small village in North Ayrshire and apparently has a particular form of geranium which grows there, hence the title of the tune. It has the preserved remains of an ancient castle and was the port from which the bodies of ancient Scottish kings were taken by ship to Iona for burial.

My pictures were all taken along the banks of the River Almond at Huntingtower in Perthshire last week.
