For Kumu Hulu Mele Kahalepuna-Chun, traditional Hawaiian featherwork was her birthright. Her tūtū, Mary Lou Kekuewa, literally wrote the book on it. Na Lima Mili Hulu Noʻeau was started in 1991 by Mele’s mother and grandparents. Today, Kumu Mele runs the workshop and keeps the family tradition alive by teaching the next generation of feather lei makers.
