One of the reasons you might not want to visit Malpelo is the daily rain and the cold Pacific water. Malpelo is incredibly unique from my perspective as a diver. It's the beautiful tip of an immense underwater mountain range, like the summit of mount Everest. We get to appreciate just the smallest point from the surface, but that is an incredible sanctuary for seabirds of all kinds and crabs and iguanas and other critters who call the top of Malpelo their home. Normally at most other dive destinations you might see one or eagle ray in the water, perhaps a shark even and count yourself lucky. At Malpelo we were regularly seeing many Eagle Rays, sometimes a few swimming together, and an immense abundance of sharks of various kinds. Super incredible to see, I haven't seen such abundance of these animals anywhere else in the world. The views of the island and having the opportunity to zodiac around and witness the rawness and ruggedness is a huge highlight. There are many reasons why I would recommend to "Dare to Visit Malpelo," while also cautioning that it is not for the faint of heart. The journey is long, the dives are intense. The rain and the cold water can be draining even if the dives are exciting. All of these things should be taken into consideration when contemplating an amazing destination like Malpelo and what it truly takes to experience its beauty.
