My name is “Wingit” and I am attempting an Appalachian Trail 2024 Thru Hike - without much of a plan, in fact, I am Winging it along the way. Here is another day I am grateful to share with everyone.

Today I left Glasgow, VA late in the day and hiked up to Punchbowl Shelter, about 12 miles. It was an incredibly hot day today and a tough climb. I saw several volunteer trail workers carrying weed eaters and landscaping tools who did an impeccable job of caring for the trail - so that people like me can have an enjoyable experience. I managed to personally thank every single one of them for the job that they do - as well as give them all a fist bump. Tireless work, and they also had to make this climb in this heat. Thank you to these individuals and anyone helping care for this trail.

Once atop the summit, I took a nice long break in the shade and enjoyed the view.
I made the analogy that we pay for these views, not with money but with pain. It’s much like going to a steakhouse and buying the most expensive cut of steak - I want to get the reward and eat it. I no longer have the mentality of those who pay for the climb but don’t enjoy the rewards. To each their own, and no judgement but if I pay for the steak - I want to enjoy the meal.

A great hike today and a wonderful experience with the volunteers.

Please let me know your thoughts and if you haven’t joined us on this journey, please subscribe and join us as we all trek the road together.

DONATIONS - My needs are met so
ANY & ALL donations will be utilized to help less fortunate hikers. Many are hiking with minimal food & substandard gear, infrequent opportunities to get out of inclement weather, do laundry, or acquire a bunk at a local hostile. Many survive by donated gear from hiker boxes to experience the magic of the Appalachian Trail.

I believe the gift is in the give and utilize every opportunity to be of service to others; on the trail and off. I do what I can, any additional contributions will further validate the AT Mantra “The Trail Provides.”

Love & Peace,

“Wingit”
