While he may seem erratic at first Ludwig becomes quite predictable if you use the correct spacing to trigger his attacks. Do not lock on to him as his movements will throw your camera around. He does not take extra damage from serration but he is considered a beast so take a quick weapon and attach whatever gems you have that increase damage to them

Start by running forward to the right of the arena to bait his jump to get an easy hit or two and put you in a good position for the rest of the fight.

The trick to Ludwig is to take the fight to him, and to move up and down the arena so you don't get trapped against a wall. Stay close and bait his two hit lunge he follows up with two swipes that actually have a much smaller range than the animation suggests, this allows you to dash in and strike his head. Up close he will try to butt you with his head this can be avoided with a back dash but if it connects it doesn't do much damage and you can make use of your rally potential to regain the health. A few hits to his head will stun him and allow for a visceral.

Just keep your spacing consistent and watch his cues.

When he jumps in the air watch for the blood drips from the ceiling after two you can either react to his shadow or just wait one second after the blood drips and roll you should be safe to go for a quick hit to the head.

When he starts his bite attack the last hit has a large range so don't try to run from it , instead roll forward through it and reposition yourself.

Sometimes he will do a two handed swipe that you can easily avoid and run in for a hit to the head but invariably he will follow this up with a quick hit to your right so it's safer to just evade it

His trample attack is also easy to dash from. But remember to roll at the end as he has an extended range swipe at the end

Listen for his particular scream that indicates he is about to charge it comes out quick. if you mistime the roll it can hit you for a counter that can one shot you, you want to be close and evade to the side so if you're a bit far try to close the distance quickly and then roll to the side

After you hit him for a visceral your goal should be to damage his legs. The safest way is to wait for his ranged "money shot" sprint to the right to avoid and wail on his legs. A few hits will stun him allowing for a full combo that should take him into the second phase. If his right side is close to the wall just evade the attack and try to get him back into the centre so you have room to run around him the next time he tries it.

Once he has his sword close the distance as quickly as possible to prevent him using his ranged attacks that are difficult to get around. Keep circling, try to stay behind him and keep nipping at his legs when you can. He will drop for a visceral after a while.

When he points his sword down fall back to avoid the AoE then close the distance again to where he has more trouble hitting you.

Watch for the read of his huge wave attack when he raises the sword to his face. It will kill you for sure if it connects, but it's actually a blessing in disguise. Wait for his quick AoE to end and for him to stop tracking and sprint towards and behind him to avoid. The wave lasts a long time and while your behind you should be able to put in enough damage to end him
