Shane Shepherd: I was into extreme stuff… | Ai4Autism
Join us for yet another fab interview where we hear from members of our community and listen to their stories.
We have a fascinating guest with us today. Shane is from Arbroath, Scotland - one of the places we hiked through during our Ai4Autism Brighton2Scotland hike. Shane recently discovered he’s autistic and has ADHD. Today, we’ll be hearing Shane’s story and we’ll get a chance to learn from his experiences. Please welcome, Shane Shepherd.
In this interview, Shane talks about being diagnosed with Autism and ADHD only a year ago, some of this characteristics when growing up, how family was towards him, losing his mother at the age of 17, losing his brother recently, being into extreme sports and enjoying adrenaline rushes, his adorable dog - a border collie named Cali, his passion for playing the guitar, skateboarding and being a lifelong wrestling fan, how loud noises and bright lights affect him, how his memory is affected, the need to wear sunglasses when going outside, how exercise is the best thing for someone with ADHD, how he's great at many things yet unable to do things like tie his shoelaces, his sensitivity to noises and affinity to pleasant smells and aftershaves, how he's a creative person and would like to start something of his own, employment history and being on benefits and how people could spend some time learning and not being ignorant. Plus much more!
