It turns out, there's two Irelands. One is the Republic, the other is Northern Ireland, which is still part of the UK and fiercely proud of it. Growing up, I heard about the Troubles and all the mindless violence that took place in the North. The Catholics/Republicans wanted to be part of Ireland, the Protestants/Unionists wanted to be part of the UK.

But what was this place really all about? I didn't know anyone when I showed up. But by pure coincidence, I arrived on one of the biggest (and most controversial) holidays in NI--the 12th of July. And I never expected who I was going to meet.
