1996 was the was year for Explorer to be offered with a V8 option. A 5.0L V8 making only 210 HP but still making an impressive 280 ft-lbs. @ 3300 rpm so this old horse does provide lots of low end torque. A common misconception is the belief that the V8 Explorers of this generation were only available in AWD form but thats purely false! It's paired to a 4 speed auto BTW

We purchased this Explorer in the spring of 2008 for $500. And since then the truck has been super reliable. Of course there were a few expected repairs that had to be done since ownership. Torque Converter $99, Camshaft Synchronize $45, Fuel pump $115, & a complete set of new ball joint $80. All the typical issues expected to hit 15+ year old car with almost 200K. But all these repairs were done in-house & not at a mechanic shop which is why cost of everything stayed low.

Theres been moments where my dad thought about selling but when further thought is made, there really isn't much point in doing so. Its not often you can have a reliable mint condition up to snuff truck that cost almost nothing. It be hard to find another replacement in this case. Better off keeping it as the trusty beater spare truck to carry things & etc that you wouldn't use a nicer car with.

In case you're not aware, all my tours (except personal cars) will be posted at 2theRedlineLLC from now on!    / 2theredlinellc
