Matt Eberflus's In Vouge Growth Mindset. Chicago Bears News. Justin Fields was inconsistent, had a couple of throws sail on him, and threw an interception in 7-on-7 drills where the offense had a clear advantage. However, he did thread the needle to Darnell Mooney for a big gain, though, He wasn't caudled with a walk-through to know what plays they'd be running, has an early connection blossoming with pringle and that HITS system is actually a thing, and guys are flying all over the place swarming to the ball. It's April, and we must overreact. No, Guys. This is exactly what we want in spring practices. Justin Fields is being coached for the first time in his NFL career. Put your left foot in, take your left foot out and shake it all about while Luke Getsy is right there rushing Fields through his progressions at every snap, Janocko coming up to him after each rep talking it through. When asked about Fields specifically responding after mistakes, Eberflus generally spoke about the value of having those errors occur at an April practice.
"I would just say that each guy's working through learning the system," he said. "When you're learning a new system, you're going to have mistakes, and mistakes are good. Mistakes are learning opportunities. You have to look at it that way at every position, so we want guys … we're going to push them, challenge them and stretch them mentally and physically so that they do make mistakes. So, why? So we can learn and grow. That's what we want to do." In Vouge growth mindset. "Well, what does that mean? That means that I'm going to learn from my performance, good, bad, or indifferent; I'm going to take one rep at a time and learn from it," It's the third playbook and coaching staff in as many years for Fields. It would be concerning if he wasn't making mistakes and going through that growth process. There is absolutely no way Fields is going home and dwelling on this. He has the entire offseason to get the hokie pokie down and the timing with an entirely new wide receiving corps. Hell, he probably has them all in Atlanta as we speak. A lot will change between now and the start of the season. Even between now and OTAs, when the rookies and a few more veterans will be in the building.
Yes, the offense has a long way to go, But, Every guy out there is buying into the system, and it shows. Coach Flus even had the Cubs buying into the system in historic fashion yesterday. Darnell Mooney still has that chip on his shoulder of feeling disrespected. Being a fifth-round pick is embedded and a driving force to watch tape down to the attention of detail in how Antonio Brown runs back to the huddle after every play. How that drive in the Super Bowl was Cooper Kupps, Not allowing the fatigue to settle in through the six completions to the score. He talked about how he wants to be able to play six quarters. These guys are showing up ready to run through a damn wall. Eddie Jackson is ready for his clean slate saying 2021 is the worst season of his career.
"I gave up too many deep balls," he said. "Just trying to eliminate that. The little things with your eyes, breaking on the ball, attention to details. Little things, little fixes that you could make.”
Eberflus said he could see the range, speed, athletic ability with Jackson and experience. He's also noticed how Jackson has embraced the idea of this being a new start.
"Yeah, I think you can see it," Eberflus said. "I can see it in his attitude and his demeanor. I could see it in his eyes when I talked to him that he is energized, and he saw it as a fresh start for him. I can see it in his practice, too, just the way he's carrying himself. He's been great in the meetings, and he's been great on the practice field.”
Jackson appreciates the scheme's simplicity, echoing what we heard from defensive end Trevis Gipson earlier this week.
"It's not too many eyes here, eyes there," he said. "You just see what's in front of you and play." Roquan and Monty are the leaders of men with the no contract, no problem mentality and just wanting to get out there and handle their business. This is what we should be talking about, guys. It's a rebuild. It always has to get worse before it can get better and for you fans that are not buying into tearing it down to the studs and building it back up the right way this time, keep an eye on the Dolphins over the next few years—very similar situation. Flirting with .500, more than a Left Tackle and a wide receiver away, yet they spent big on one and threw away years of draft capital for another. Exactly what we've been doing for years. Seriously guys, keep an eye on them and see how that works out. Thanks, guys, be good.
