On August 21st, 2023, President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden visited Maui. President Biden delivered a moving speech at the Civic Center in Lahaina. This undoubtedly marks an unforgettable occasion for many Maui residents, especially for the survivors in Lahaina who shared the room with the president. The healing process for Lahaina, Maui, and the individuals who have suffered losses, whether they be loved ones, homes, or livelihoods, will undoubtedly be a lengthy one.

In the aftermath of the fires, I've witnessed a widespread sense of unity, with people embracing one another, offering solace, and sharing their harrowing experiences. It's beautiful to witness, yet at the same time, it serves as a poignant reminder of the profound pain people are feeling inside. On TV and the internet, there's a continuous flow of sad and unsettling images that start to feel overwhelming and weigh heavily on my heart. Seeking solace, I turned to witnessing the sunset at Wailea. As always, it remains a breathtaking sight. It reminds me of the grandeur of nature, surpassing our own existence. Maui, with its timeless allure, continues to radiate its beauty.

I hope this video can offer a glimmer of solace to those who are navigating through what might be the darkest and saddest moments of their lives. Aloha.

火災があってから、外出するたびに、人々がハグし合い、慰め合めあっている光景を見かけます。皆ができるだけのことをしようとしたり、傷ついた人を慰めようとしたりしていて、なんて素晴らしい人々だろうと思います。そして同時に、皆が深い悲しみを感じているのだということを何度も何度も感じます。テレビやインターネットでは、延々と悲しい映像が流され、悲劇が語られ、日に日にどんどん胸に重くのしかかってきます。

この日はそんなしんどくなってきた心を少し休憩させるべくワイレアの夕日を見に行くことにしました。相変わらず息をのむような美しさです。人類の存在を超えた自然の壮大さをいつも感じます。こんな悲劇の後も、マウイは永遠の美しさを放っています。
