One of the oldest temple in west bengal, Gobardanga Prasannamoyee Kali mandir was built by Zamindar Sri Khelaram Mukhopadhyay. But he died leaving the construction of the temple incomplete. After that, his son, Sri Kaliprasanna Mukhopadhyay established the Prasannamoyee Kali mandir along with the dwadosh Shiv mandir in 1822 BC (Bengali Chaitra, 1229). Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa had visited the temple in 1870 BC. It is said that Rani Rashmoni once visited this temple. About 33 years after the establishment of the Prasannamoyee Kali mandir, the Bhabatarini temple at Dakshineswar was established and many similarities can be found between the Prasannamoyee Kali idol and the Bhabatarini Kali idol.
