Make your own wooden building block/construction set! What do you make for the kids that have everything? Ultimate Building Blocks! I'll show you how to make this crazy awesome 80-piece building block set for less than $20! (Not counting the bolts and nuts)
So I came up with this beginner woodworking project one Christmas when my kiddos were small. Money was tight and I was building on a budget. My kids had just "outgrown" their legos (who outgrows legos) and Lincoln Logs well... were just too expensive. So using reclaimed 2x4s, I made them a building block set that put Lincoln Logs to shame. Not only could they build about anything that they could imagine... but they also learned how to use basic hand tools in the process! I'm not going to lie... I enjoyed the blocks just as much as the kiddos.

I used 1/4" bolts, nuts and washers for this kit (Not for small children). The best place to buy these are stores that sell them by the pound. I'll link the tote I used as well.

I'll throw a cheap-cut layout in the shop. This will show you how to cut each board in order to get 80pcs from 5 - 2x4x96" boards.
