Wes Lang’s universe is horses, reapers, memento mori, and other totems of the American West. Throughout his sometimes frenetic paintings, these emblems of the renegade evoke awakening, reinvention, and freedom. His work, both in process and distribution, is deeply personal – to own a piece is to know him. He has created artwork for cultural icons like Kanye West and the Grateful Dead, further expanding his reach into the world of pop culture. Though Lang is reclusive, he showcases his work in prestigious international collections such as MOMA, Muderme, and an upcoming exhibition at Damien Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery. On canvas and paper, cast bronze and hotel stationery, Lang provokes a deeper engagement with mortality and life’s larger purpose.
