At the recent 2023 BWF World Championships, Seo Seung Jae of Korea, achieved the doubles double, winning both the men's and mixed doubles titles.

This was a feat that had only ever been done by 4 male players in the World Championships 46 year history, and hadn't been done since 1999!

But more than that, doing the doubles double in badminton as a whole is something which has become rarer and rarer!

All of this leads to an interesting question...

WHY?!

Why has the doubles double become so rare, especially at the highest level of badminton.
