Castro Daire is located in Beira Alta, in the Dão-Lafões sub-region and belongs to the Alto Paiva and Vouga landscape unit. Its toponym immediately denounces the antiquity of the place, once dominated by a fort, it had a charter (or tenancy) from D. Afonso Henriques, as can be deduced from the Inquirições of D. Afonso III, and the first charter given by him monarch, of which there is no conclusive proof. It is certain that D. Manuel granted a new charter to the council in 1513, in which he refers to the existence of a previous document, Dionysin, which could have been simply a letter of privilege. The council belonged to the royal patronage, and later to the Casa do Infantado. Its houses in the historic center are interesting, with a noble house from the century. XVII with residential part and agricultural part. It has a magnificent view over the Paiva River Valley. If you have to travel along the national road Nº2 that connects Chave to Faro, you already know, you will pass in Castro Daire.
