the gowind design is a family of steel monohull frigate, corvettes and offshore patrol vessel. It is developed by france’s Naval group, which was formerly known as d c n s since 2006. It was designed to conduct missions in the littoral zone such as air defense, anti ship and anti submarine warfare.
General characteristics
Gowind vessel has a length of 85 to 111 meter, and a displacement of 1000 to 3100 tons, which are varies on vessel category. If it is a frigate, corvette or offshore patrol vessel. The gun has a maximum firing range of upto 40 kilometer, with armor piercing 915 meter per second muzzle velocity of ammunition. In 2019 united arab emirates navy had signed a contract with naval group for two gowind 2500 heavyweight corvettes, with options for two more, to be built in abu dhabi ship building company. In 2019 romanian navy ordered four new gowind multi mission capable corvettes. In 2021 indonesia signed a letter of intent to buy 2 gowind class corvette. Greece is also interested in 5 gowind 2500 class corvette for their future navy program.
